Report Suspected Insurance Fraud.
Unfortunately, there is no way to fully prevent insurance fraud. But you can rest assured that United Mutual and its partners take it seriously and work to combat it.
If you suspect fraud, you can report it anonymously to the National Insurance Crime Bureau (NICB).
What is Insurance Fraud?
Insurance fraud occurs when a person makes a false claim in order to get an insurance payout. This could be anything from exaggerating or falsifying certain facts related to a claim, to purposely causing damage to create a loss.
- According to the Insurance Information Institute, fraud accounts for about 10% of claims expenses each year, a cost that the FBI estimates costs each U.S. family as much as $700 each year.
- While insurance fraud may typically be committed by claimants, its reach can be further than that. Anyone involved in the claims process could engage in fraud, including auto repair shops, home repair companies, contractors and home renovators. That’s why it is important to be educated, aware, and take every step in the claims process seriously.
- Insurers have regulatory, financial, and service responsibilities to fight fraud while promptly recognizing and resolving legitimate claims. This is one way to keep premium costs down and improve agency and insurer results.

Insurance fraud is a multibillion-dollar blow annually to honest consumers, agents and insurers. If you suspect someone is using an insurance claim simply to gain an illegitimate insurance payout, it is crucial to report this activity.
